ABOUT FONFONEATA & THOMAS - Page 2
Thus it was that they moved in 2005 not far away to no.27 on the Belfortstraat, under the banner of
"Emil Fonfoneata & Caroline Thomas, antiquarians" and opened their new shop on 1 July of that year,
surrounded by their friends.
In their superb shop windows, laid out in a perfectly designed setting, one can admire silversmithing
from every country, ranging from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries, but with an emphasis on the
silverwork of our own regions. You will notice one thing very quickly: the quality of the frequently
prestigious items on display here.
You will be equally impressed by the vast library which adorns one entire wall, entirely devoted to the
glories of the art of silver and its techniques, hallmarks and masters. The Fonfoneatas’ specialised
library is testimony to their passion for this artistic domain. Emil is a researcher and once he has
acquired a piece, he is sure to consult his books to make a precise authentication of its origin, the
silversmith’s history and its style. It goes without saying that thanks to his many years of experience
in this field he is able, even without his books, to tell you virtually everything about any piece you
offer or simple show to him.
